Jamaica’s defending Women's Chess Champion, Krishna Gray, left Jamaica yesterday to participate in the 2013 Margaret Prince Celebration Chess tournament scheduled to be held at the Chess Centre, Cavans Lane in Bridgetown, Barbados from Friday, January 18 to Monday January 21, 2013. Gray is scheduled to return on January 23.
The event, to be held over seven-rounds, features only females with this year’s players, apart from Gray, hailing from Barbados, France, Guyana and Trinidad & Tobago.
The event is held in honour of Margaret Prince, one of the leading figures of Barbadian Chess, who died in August, 2008. Jamaicans dominated the inaugural 2010 edition with ten-time Jamaican women’s champion Deborah Richards-Porter winning the event with a perfect 6/6 score and Melisha Smith finishing second on 4.5/6.
